Ten people were shot in the early hours of Sunday morning in Columbus, Ohio, leaving one person critically injured. The shootings occurred in the Short North area of Columbus around 2:30 a.m., according to multiple reports.
The victims ranged from 16 to 27 years old and were all men, according to the Columbus Police Department and NBC affiliate WCMH-TV in Columbus. The suspect was described as a male wearing all black clothing, and police are currently searching for him.
The shooting took place near the intersection of North High Street and East 3rd Avenue. According to reports, at least one building had its window broken during the incident.
This is not the first time there has been a major shooting in the Short North area of Columbus. In May 2023, two simultaneous shootings left at least ten people injured and one person was shot by an officer. About two weeks later, three people were killed in a mass shooting near the district that left at least three others injured.
Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther called the gun violence “outrageous” and “unacceptable.” in a statement issued on Sunday morning. He urged parents to step up and ensure they know where their kids are, as well as enforce curfews in their homes.
Police are currently searching for the suspect vehicle, which is believed to be a white Honda Civic with tinted windows.
