Thunderstorm Triggers Flash Flooding at Dollywood, One Minor Injury Reported

A thunderstorm caused flash flooding at Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on July 29, 2024. The heavy rainfall resulted in one minor injury when a tree fell on a woman's camper in the 3600 block of Bear Cove Way. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Sevier County at 5:39 p.m., which expired at 10:45 p.m.

Dollywood officials reported that nearly 5 inches of rain fell in the area within an hour, causing significant flooding in McCarter Hollow, Dollywood, and Walker Trail areas of Sevier County. Many side roads were also impassable due to the flooding.

The park was scheduled to open at noon on Monday after cleanup crews were deployed. The Pigeon Forge Police Department assisted Sevier County with roads around Dollywood and helped guests get out of the park safely.

Veterans Boulevard, a major road in the area, was also shut down for a time due to flooding. Sevier County Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter urged residents to avoid driving through flooded areas and stay informed about road closures.

The incident marks the second water-related issue Dollywood has faced this month. Two weeks prior, the park had to close for a day due to a burst water main.
