A tragic incident occurred at a beach in West Haven, Connecticut, on the morning of June 22, 2024. According to multiple reports from reliable sources including the New Haven Register and WTNH News, a man identified as Romney Desronvil allegedly tried to drown his two young children in the ocean. The incident took place around 2:30 a.m., and officers from the West Haven Police Department were quick to respond.
The first officer on the scene heard significant screaming coming from the water and observed a man, later identified as Desronvil, with two small children in distress. When the officer approached, Desronvil reportedly yelled for them to stay back. However, it was clear that he was deliberately drowning his children.
Additional officers and members of the West Shore Fire Department entered the water to assist. They formed a human chain and managed to bring both children back to shore where they received life-saving measures before being rushed to Yale New Haven Children's Hospital in critical condition. The children, who are under 3 years old, are reportedly improving but still remain in the intensive care unit.
Desronvil was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts each of attempted homicide and risk of injury. He is currently in police custody pending further investigation.
The quick actions of the responding officers saved the lives of these children, as stated by West Haven Police Sgt. Patrick Buturla in a press release.
This incident serves as a reminder that every life is precious and should be protected at all costs. It also highlights the importance of having well-trained emergency responders who can act swiftly in critical situations.
