Roger Cohen is a seasoned journalist with over three decades of experience at The New York Times, where he has served as foreign editor, an Opinion columnist and a foreign correspondent. He has reported from all over the world, including stints in Paris as bureau chief, Ukraine, Russia, India, the Central African Republic and Israel. Cohen's work focuses on coverage of France and Europe but also extends to the wars in Ukraine and Israel-Gaza. He has received multiple prestigious awards for his journalism including a 2023 Pulitzer Prize and a George Polk Award as part of The Times reporting team covering the war in Ukraine, and a 2024 George Polk Award as part of The Times team covering the war between Israel and Hamas. In 2021, he received the Légion d'Honneur from the French Republic for his work over four decades. Cohen is also an accomplished author with five books to his name, including a family memoir entitled, “The Girl from Human Street: Ghosts of Memory in a Jewish Family,” and the recent, “An Affirming Flame: Meditations on Life and Politics.” In addition to his work at The Times, Cohen has taught journalism at Princeton and Indiana University, Bloomington, and the role of diplomacy as a fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center. He grew up in England and South Africa, graduated from Oxford, is a naturalized American citizen and currently serves as Paris bureau chief for The New York Times.
