Melissa Nord
Melissa Nord is an Emmy award-winning Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. An Atlanta area native and Georgia Tech graduate, she is thrilled to be in her hometown forecasting the weather for the north Georgia region. Melissa can be seen weekdays at 4 p.m., alongside her colleagues at 11 Alive, where she has been since August 2020 as the weekend morning meteorologist. She has covered various weather events in Georgia, including tornado outbreaks, winter storms, and landfalling tropical systems. In addition to her work at 11 Alive, Melissa was seen on cable news covering national and international weather stories for The Weather Channel and CNN. She has been recognized by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters with a GABBY Award for Best Meteorologist in 2022, and she received an Emmy Award and the Associated Press Award for best Meteorologist in the D.C.-Baltimore area while working at WUSA 9 in Washington, D.C.. Melissa is also a member of the Exhibits and Programming Committee for the Children's Museum of Atlanta, where she plans weather events to engage students in hands-on STEM learning. She is passionate about inspiring others to be excited about science and serves as a resource for schools in the North Georgia area. Before joining 11 Alive, Melissa worked at LEX 18 in Lexington, Kentucky and began her career at The Weather Channel as a weather producer and graphics meteorologist. She has volunteered with the National Weather Service Office in Peachtree City, conducting research to improve warning lead times during tornadic severe weather events. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
