Russell James

Russell James is a meteorologist based in Greenville, North Carolina. He joined WITN in August 2022 after working as a Meteorologist from Wilmington, NC. His interest in meteorology began at the age of 6 when he experienced Hurricane Charley in 2004, and was further solidified after surviving an F3 tornado in 2006. Russell pursued his education at East Carolina University, earning a B.S. degree in Applied Atmospheric Science (2019) and an M.S. degree in Geography with a concentration in Tropical Meteorology and Atmospheric Circulations (2022). During his time at ECU, he engaged with the community by hosting forecast forums during Hurricane Florence in 2018. In his spare time, Russell enjoys reading books, spending time with friends, collecting radio airchecks and jingle packages from various radio stations around the country, and cooking a variety of dishes. He is also a major fan of ice cream.
