Christine Hauser is a national and foreign news reporter for The New York Times. She has covered various topics including financial markets, police bureau, John Edwards' campaign for president in 2007, Hurricane Katrina aftermath, Virginia Tech shootings, events in Iraq, Israel and the Palestinian territories. Before joining The Times in 2003, Ms. Hauser was a Reuters correspondent stationed in the Middle East where she reported from Israel and the Palestinian territories earning her a nomination for the 2001 Prix Bayeux Award in conflict reporting. Her Reuters assignments included Pakistan, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan, Iraq, Egypt, Afghanistan and Gulf Arab countries. Previously Ms. Hauser was a reporter for United Press International covering the 1990 Iraqi invasion and the 1991 Gulf War. She also briefly covered local government for the San Antonio Light in Texas. Ms. Hauser holds a bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Colorado and a master's degree on Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures from Columbia University.
