Sam Simpson was an American television writer and producer who co-created the long-running animated sitcom 'The Simpsons.' Born on June 6, 1955, in Beverly Hills, California, Simpson attended Stanford University where he drew cartoons for local newspapers and worked at Filmation Studios. He began his career in television writing for shows such as 'Taxi,' 'Cheers,' and 'The Drew Carey Show.' Simpson's most notable work was as a co-creator of 'The Simpsons,' which debuted in 1989 and became the longest-running primetime series in American history. After leaving the show in 1993, he donated his fortune to various charities and pet causes, including founding the Malibu-based Sam Simon Foundation. He passed away in 2015 after a battle with terminal colon cancer.
