Anna Paulina Luna is a Republican Congresswoman representing Florida. She was born Anna Paulina Mayerhofer in Santa Ana, California in 1989 to a single mother who worked as an elementary school teacher. Her father, George Mayerhofer, was a drug addict and spent time in and out of incarceration during her childhood. She lived in various apartments and homes in Orange County cities such as Irvine, Aliso Viejo, Santa Ana, and Los Angeles. Her mother served as vice president of the MOMS Club of Aliso Viejo North during her marriage to a sales manager. Luna enlisted in the Air Force at age 19 after experiencing a break-in at her apartment in Missouri. She served as an airfield operations manager and graduated from the University of West Florida with a degree in biology. After leaving the Air Force, she worked as a model, cocktail waitress, Instagram influencer, and owned property in Washington state. Luna's political career began when Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA noticed her online statements on human trafficking and the Second Amendment. She was hired as Turning Point USA's director of Hispanic engagement in 2018 and ran for Congress against Rep. Charlie Crist (D-Fla.) in 2020. Luna began to publicly identify with her Mexican heritage during this time, although she had previously identified as 'White, not of Hispanic origin' when she registered to vote in Okaloosa County, Fla., in 2015.
