Chris Murphy

Chris Murphy is a US Senator from Connecticut who has been known for his decade-long gun safety crusade after the Sandy Hook shooting. He was born and raised in Wethersfield, Connecticut, where his father's family was well-off but his mother lived in public housing. Murphy grew up feeling fortunate and developed a civic obligation to serve. He struggled academically at Williams College but found inspiration in Richard Ben Cramer's book 'What It Takes'. After college, Murphy was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives at 25, the state Senate at 29, and the United States Congress at 33. In 2012, he ran for Joe Lieberman's vacated Senate seat and won despite being a backbencher in Congress. Sandy Hook changed Murphy's life as he found his calling to fight for gun reform. He is now trying to leverage his rising star to combat the 'Great Unraveling' by fostering conversations about the spiritual health of America.
