FOX 5 DC is a news station serving the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. It is an owned-and-operated Fox Broadcasting Company station with studios based in Bethesda, Maryland. FOX 5 DC traces its history back to May 19, 1945 when Allen B. DuMont founded W3XWT as the second experimental television station in Washington D.C., and the second station of the now-defunct DuMont Television Network. The station began regular network service in 1946 and received a commercial license on January 3, 1947, named for Thomas T. Goldsmith, Dr. DuMont's best friend and the DuMont network's chief engineer.
